Local area

Beziers is situated between the mountains and the sea, under a blue sky amidst green vineyards. The city has a 6500-year-old history and lots of beautiful monuments. Sampley one of the many products typical of this region. Trips include a boat excursion on the Canal du Midi or a nice walk along the shore. Beziers is bursting with festivals and events including the famous Feria, Festa d`Oc and rugby matches. Tips for day trips: Montpellier (approx. 65 km): Like many cities in this region Montpellier also has a Roman origin. The city, however, only began to flourish during the 10th century when the trade in spices from the Middle East began. During the religious wars of the 16th century much of the city was destroyed yet its medieval remains were spared. There were strikingly beautiful little churches here but only the Cathedrale St. Pierre and Notre Dame des Tables are left. In the 17th century the city was rebuilt including beautiful mansions with courtyards, stone staircases and ornate balconies. Some of these mansions are open for viewing by the public. Around the square you-ll find the opera house which dates from the 19th century, the Fontaine des Trois Graces and many popular cafes with quaint terraces. Perpignan (approx. 95 km): Perpignan is a nice town with southern atmosphere where you can enjoy a snack or drink at a lovely cafe or spend the day shopping. The fact that this city once belonged to Spain is obvious in the temperamental nature and rhythm of its population. Arles (ca. 140 km): Arles is famous because of Vincent van Gogh, who lived and worked here. But the city is also rich in Roman monuments, churches and ancient walls. Avignon (about 155 km): The papal southern city of Avignon has a wonderful atmosphere! The popes built many splendid churches and palaces here such as the Palais des Papes. After a nature walk visit the famous Pont d'Avignon and impressive Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard. St. Remy de Provence (c. 170 km): In the typical southern French town of St. Remy de Provence, you can enjoy a medieval atmosphere. Just outside the village lie the excavations of the city's Celtic Glanum. Aix-en-Provence (ca. 215 km): in Aix-en-Provence, here you can enjoy history and culture: the city has beautiful remnants from Roman times and the studio of Impressionist Paul Cezanne's is open to visitors. But don-t forget Nîmes , with its Arena and the Roman temple of Maison Carree; Arles, the city of Vincent van Gogh; the rugged unspoilt nature of the Camargue, where wild horses, bulls, flamingos and herons live; and finally the Gorges du Verdon, a mighty canyon carved by water.
